Sharing private chat screenshots in a group and mocking someone can potentially attract legal action under Indian law for defamation, breach of privacy, and cyberbullying. Criminal Defamation (Section 356 of BNS / Section 499 of IPC): Making or publishing defamatory imputations intended to harm a person's reputation can be prosecuted criminally. Information Technology Act (Section 66E and 67 of IT Act): Capturing, publishing, or transmitting private images or communication violates personal privacy. Civil Suit for Damages: You can file a civil suit for damages for mental agony and defamation

Sharing screenshots of private conversations without your consent may give rise to legal remedies, depending on the contents, manner of sharing and the circumstances. You should preserve the original chats, screenshots, group messages and details showing who shared them and when. Avoid deleting or altering the evidence. If the material is defamatory, threatening, obscene or otherwise unlawful, appropriate civil and/or criminal remedies may be available. You may also consider sending a legal notice demanding removal of the screenshots, an undertaking not to circulate them further and compensation where legally maintainable. If the conduct amounts to an offence under applicable cyber or criminal laws, a complaint may also be considered before the appropriate authorities. The exact remedy depends on the nature and content of the messages, so the evidence should be reviewed before taking action.
