I am facing a Car sale token amount issue from the seller.
04-Aug-2023 (In Civil Law)
I had taken a token amount of 4 thousand rupees for the sale of my car with the condition that the rest of the money would be paid the next day.The next day the person who paid the token asked for a few more days.As i was on a tight schedule i sold the car to some one else.I offered to return thrice the token amount but the guy is not accepting.He is threatening me with police case. What are my options.Token amount was paid without a receipt.

since there is no receipt or invoices in existence the other person cannot sue you or make any complaint against you however if there is any chat or sms shared between you both then he can use that as piece of evidence. also you have made oral promise to give him the car. nonetheless you gave him enough time to pay full amount which is sufficient to prove your innocence. also you need not pay him double or more to whatever he paid you.

You dont need to worry as you have not signed any document which may prove that you accepted a token amount. Just forget about the police case. He is just trying to get more money from you nothing else.
