How to claim deceased fathers locker and account

15-Jun-2023 (In Civil Law)
Hi, My father had a savings account and locker in SBI. In that locker has no nomination registered. We have all the required documents like death certificate and legal heir ship. One of the legal heir lives in abroad and cannot come for this for a while. Is there anyway to claim the locker without their physical presence and with their approval. please let me know the procedures.

Apart from the documents that you have talked about, you also need to obtain a succession certificate which you will obtain from the civil court along with other legal heirs. A succession certificate is must for inheritance of movable properties. Hence you also need to obtain that as the items in the locker must be moveable properties.

Absolutely that is possible. You can ask the person abroad to execute a specific power of attorney executed through Indian embassy and once that is available, the bank has to reasonably believe that and permit you for further actions.
