Fire break out in my storeroom, no damage to others

01-May-2023 (In Civil Law)
Hi, recently there was a fire break out in my storeroom due to short circuit, everything mine was damaged or burnt, we salvage what we can. Thank god! No one got injured and the fire didn't spread out, it was contained in my storeroom only. I would like to know what is the procedure now relating to fire brigade & police. My concern is: 1. Some people are saying I have to pay fire brigade for their service, is it true? why I have to pay when I am paying taxes? 2. Procedure to cope with police enquiry and reporting? These are my most important two concerns at this present moment. I haven't bought any insurance for the same, so No insurance what so ever! If I can get a response swiftly it would really benefit me.

There is no need to make any payment to the Fire Brigade, as you rightly said, when you pay taxes to the Government/and Municipal Corporation. As far as Police Enquiry is concerned, Police would have done Panchnama, would have sought detailed statements from the people living in the neighborhood, when this fire had been broke out & as such, would have prepared a report for submission to the concerned Dept of Police.

This is my response to you: 1. Yes you will have to pay service fee; 2. This is as per section 11 of the Maharashtra fire prevention and life safety measures act; 3. Still ask the fire department to show you a recent circular demanding fees from commercial owners; 4 Consult a local lawyer and take steps.
