Defamation , False allegations against me by my subordinate.I am worki

I am working in J and K government. Can I file a defamation suit against my subordinate who levelled false allegations against me in my office to defame me in a written complaint?? Is defamation only limited to case where the defamation is done publicly?

this is defamation ! where ever the other person has tried to malign your image in minds of like minded people be it office or society. so if the complaint against you had been given with malafide intention , you have the right to sue him for defamation.
