Q: I am a 32-year-old adult son facing parental pressure to marry due to
I am a 32-year-old adult son facing parental pressure to marry due to societal expectations. I wish to understand the legal position under Indian law. Is there any law by which a son can be denied his share in family or parental property solely for not getting married? Is marriage the only legally recognized way to serve or contribute to parents, or are other forms of contribution also legally recognized?
Advocate Alisha Kohli answered
File civil case against your parents for not compelling you to get married , since the accepting of their demand against your own wish will not automatically curtail your rights in property , it’s exclusively their discretion…
