Can written statement be amended at the stage of arguments?

Can defendent amend his ws at the stage of argument claming adverse possession,it is not in sape of counter claim

Hello, Amendment of pleading can be made at any stage of proceeding and generally the courts are taking liberal approach in this regard.Basing on certain principles the amendments are allowed to a party along with cost to other.Here in this case the amendment can be challanged, if the defendant has not raised the details of plea that,"inspite of his due deligence he could not raised the amendment before"

The amendment of written statement at the stage of argument may be allowed at some special circumstances . It depends upon the plea taken or the documents which is to be exhibit and will not charge the nature of the suit
