Affidavit-- Meaning AND USE OF AFFIDAVIT..............................

Dear Sir/Mam, I have heard a lot about the word affidavit. But I don't know exactly what it is . So,Pls tell me what is an affidavit and what is the use of affidavit ?? Thanks..
Affidavit- किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा किसी कार्य को करने अथवा न करने की लिखित रूप में स्वेच्छा से ली गई तथ्यात्मक घोषणा को affidavit (शपथ-पत्र ) कहते हैं। Affidavit को शपथ-पत्र या हलफनामा भी कहते हैं। यह घोषणा किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति के समक्ष ली जाती है जो विधि द्वारा उसके लिए अधिकृत हो, जैैसे नोटरी पब्लिक या ओथ कमिश्नर।
Affidavit (शपथ-पत्र ) में शपथकर्ता शपथ लेकर बयान देता है कि वह जो कुछ भी जानकारी दे रहा है वह सच है। इसके बाद वह अपना दस्तखत करता है और फिर उस बयान को ओथ कमिश्नर या नोटरी पब्लिक अटेस्टेड करता है।
ऐफिडेविट का इस्तेमाल कोर्ट में भी हो सकता है और अर्द्धन्यायिक संस्था में भी। Birth Certificate बनवाने, शादी रजिस्ट्रेशन आदि के लिए ऐफिडेविट संबंधित अथॉरिटी के सामने देना होता है, लेकिन यदि बयान गलत है या जानबूझकर गलत बयान दिया गया है तो दावा रद्द हो जाता है।

an affidavit is a statement which you give to a court of law stating something and also stating taht you sre telling the truth. once you have stated a fact before a court of law you cannot backtrack upon your statement and state a different story/fact/statement. in case you do so you shall be held for perjury ie punished.
