Wrong Cheque bounce Notice Received at my House

20-Apr-2026 (In Cheque Bounce Law)
Today, a policemen came with a court notice for being present in the court. Address on the notice was of F-123 but my house is F-123A (note: it is 123A and not 123). Accused person never resided at out place F-123A even neither at our neighbour house (F-123), not part of family. Also, there are mixture of old and new address in our areas. Some uses old address and some uses new one. Also we are resident here for almost 20+ years. We protested against the policemen taking photo of notice.

The court notice is usually given in the person/company’s name. It will not affect your rights unless it is a property dispute. You can share the picture of the notice to your lawyer and consult whether you need to appear in the said case or not.

On these facts, the notice appears to have been served at the wrong address and upon the wrong person. A discrepancy between F-123 and F-123A is not a minor clerical issue when the accused has never resided at your premises and has no connection with your family. Service of notice must be effected on the correct person at the correct address; otherwise, it has no legal efficacy against you.

Do share the copy of the notice received from the court. Connect with a lawyer and seek legal advise. Engage a lawyer and appear in the court. Further inform the court through an advocate regarding true facts that this accused never resided in your premises.

From the facts stated, it appears that the notice has been wrongly attempted to be served at your address due to an address mismatch (F-123 vs F-123A). Since the accused person neither resides at your premises nor has any connection with your family, such service is not valid service upon the actual accused. You are not under any legal obligation to accept or act upon such notice if it does not pertain to you. However, it is advisable to handle the situation carefully to avoid future complications. You may inform the concerned police official, preferably in writing or via a brief acknowledgment, that the person named in the notice does not reside at your address and has no connection with your premises. If possible, keep a copy or record of such communication for your safety. The act of the policeman taking a photograph is generally done as proof of attempted service, and it does not create any liability upon you. In case the issue persists or repeated visits are made, you may submit a written representation to the local police station clearly stating that the address mentioned is incorrect and request correction in their records. Rest assured, no legal proceedings can be initiated against you merely due to an incorrect address in the notice. The responsibility lies on the complainant and authorities to correctly identify and serve the actual accused.

the police has taken the photograph only to show compliance of the court order since you or your family members are not the accused person you do not need to worry about any repercussions arising from the putting up of such notice upon your residence
