Q: My in laws not letting my wife to come to me and locked her at home

I have recently ran with my lover and married her in Kolkata. Now my in laws somehow manipulated and called us back saying they will accept our marriage. After we came back to Chennai to my in laws they kept my wife and not allowing her to come to me and denying our marriage as their consent was not there. And not allowing us to talk or meet and trying to get her married forcibly to another person.

You both are already married, therefore file a complaint with the police station, inform them that you both were majors and already married, and provide the necessary evidence, so that the authorities can assist you in your reunion.

Q: My builder refused to provide an EB connection and an EB board

I have started building an individual house in 2023. Builder took more time to complete my house. I have released all my loan amount to the builder. Now builder came and asked me to apply EB Connection and EB Board with my own. Can you clarify EB Connection and EB Board: is that building owner responsibility or builder responsibility? Kindly advise.

Please review your construction agreement, which you and the builder would have signed before beginning work. Only your construction agreement will determine the amount of EB connection charges. If there is no agreement and that clause is not found, then the owner is responsible.

Q: Filed compliant on me and my family members

I filed sec13 1ia. My wife filed sec9. Court counseling failed. Current status is about to cross examination. We got separated almost 3yrs ago. Now my father in law registered compliant on me an my family members In near police station, mentioned that we harassing her daughter. But it's fake allegations. How to respond to CI police officer?

You can also file a countercomplain in the same police station stating the fact that you were living separately and also few pending cases in court, including any supporting documentation, saying that you are innocent and that your father-in-law just filed a fictitious complaint against you to punish you.

I am seeking clarification on whether a woman is entitled to jewellery and other valuables given to her at the time of marriage by the groom and his family, or does she have to return them in case of a divorce?

The bride's stridhan includes any presents given to her by her husband or parents, or by relatives of her husband or parents, at the moment of marriage. The husband has no influence over the stridhan property. He may utilize it during his sorrow, but he has a moral obligation to return the same or its value to his wife.
