False case filed by police lawyer suggesting to admit the charge

Few years back 1 red colour bike hit a person in our neighborhood and fled immediately. Incidentally the man died in hospital after 3 days. My dad returned home after few minutes the incident had happened by driving his red colour scooter. As the colour of the scooter was same as bike, 1 person from the neighborhood gave police dad's scooter's reg. no. One case was filed by police against my dad. His lawer has recently suggested that if he admits his guilt (which he did not perform), long pending case will be closed and he has to pay only fines. Is it as simple as that? What about IPC 304A?
Admitting the guilt for something that you did not do is not advisable because If you accept the lawyers suggestion then you might have to serve a jail time of upto 2 years or fine or maybe even both under section 304a.
