Yes you are allowed to drive your car registered in one city in any other city. There is no fine amount as such as long as you haven’t moved to Chennai permanently.

Then you are required to apply for the registration to be changed at the concerned RTO in Chennai. At the very least apply for a NOC from your home RTO which will cost you nothing.

Can i drive other state registered vehicle in Chennai for 3 to 5 Years

According to the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, individuals can drive a vehicle registered in a different state in another state temporarily. This temporary period is usually limited to a few months, typically around 12 months. During this period, the vehicle owner is expected to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of the state where the vehicle is registered. The NOC allows the individual to drive the vehicle in another state for a temporary period. If you plan to drive a vehicle registered in a different state in Chennai for 3 to 5 years, it is likely that you will need to re-register the vehicle in Tamil Nadu by obtaining a new registration number from the local RTO. The specific requirements and procedures for re-registration can vary, so it is advisable to contact the Tamil Nadu RTO or seek guidance from a local transport authority to obtain accurate and up-to-date information.
