What is the meaning of a probate and why is a probate required by law?
A probate is a copy of a will certified by the court of competent jurisdiction. A probate is granted with the court seal and has a copy of the will attached to it. Applying for a probate of a will is no longer compulsory and is only needed in certain cases. An administrator or executor appointed under the will may not be able to administer its provisions without a probate.
