New rule came up that road tax to be paid at once how to stop it

03-Mar-2023 (In Tax Law)

We have road development machines. We have purchased them in 2013. We were required to pay road tax every year. Now a rule came in 2015 that we need to pay 6% of total invoice as road tax at once. We can't pay that much amount. What can we do in this situation? How to stop its implementation to vehicles bought before 2015?

Road tax has to be paid at the time of registering your vehicle, and also after it, either on a yearly basis or just once, as lifetime tax, according to the respective state government. If you use the vehicle in a state other than the one where it was registered, you may have to pay the lifetime tax again in the state where you use the car. With regard to your case, it shall depend on the state where you have your vehicles registered. If tax has to be paid yearly, then you cannot avoid and contest against the government regarding the hike in tax.
