My father has a established sole proprietorship firm for the business of spices for last 40years (say ABC). Now I want to expand the business with a new company. So can I name my company ABC PVT Ltd. provided that my father's ABC sole proprietor firm will continue as it is?

Yes, if the name is available in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs database you can use the name of any Proprietorship firm for the purpose of company registration. However, your father may object and has some rights under the Trademark law. Without a dispute you both can therefore use the names.
