Unable to clear my dues on time

Before addressing the issue I wanna say is I'm 20 yrs old and unemployed.. now coming back to the matter I've taken 8 thousand rupees frm my friend on August 2024 and I was unable to pay the money on time and by December end I've paid him 8 thousand rupees and no interest and till date he is asking me to pay 40 thousand rupees and he lended me the money in compound interest and interest rate was 50%. Can he take any legal action on me and what should I do save myself??
