Recovery of money lend to an acquaintance

16-Apr-2023 (In Recovery Law)
I am a non resident Indian , and currently stay outside India. Earlier this year an acquaintance in India (based in Bangalore) was in dire need of money for an emergency. He promised to return it in 48 hours and i offered to help. Since receiving the money its been two months now and he hasnt returned the money ( almost everyday he messages that he is depositing the cash / cheque, but that never happens) . He also refuses to come on the phone to talk ( doesnt pick calls or call back). As a non-resident Indian who probably comes to India once a year, i wanted to understand my legal options -- is it possible to file a police case remotely ? what are the other means ? what factors need to be considered

File a civil suit: If your friend does not respond to the demand letter or refuses to repay the money owed, you can file a civil suit against them in a court of law under the provisions of the Indian Contract Act.
