Patient refusing to pay despite being informed off all policies

29-Aug-2025 (In Recovery Law)
So I'm a clinical psychologist, I have a patient, who was informed well in advance regarding my full charge on cancellation policy , who cancelled a session last minute. Then later she refused to pay for the session. After a lot of argument she agreed to pay but went on to block all contact and never paid. She is a minor, her mother was paying but refused to pay for this incident saying it's between me and the patient and started making excuses about the service and my work.please help

Hi there, firstly in these times of depression and traumas you are doing a great job by providing counselling. It doesn't matter if the patient was minor as de facto the parents are responsible for the minor. At first we'll send a legal notice for recovery and based on the actual t&c and the conversation with patient we can further go on to take recourse of court proceedings. It's advisable to contact me and provide more details to assist you better.

First of all rather than going legally you should serve him/her a legal notice and in that notice you can write that either pay my money or face legal action which will be at your own risk. After that if he/she fails to give you a satisfactory reply then you can anytime file a recovery suit in the court to claim your money back along with compensations.

You have a valid case for recovery since the patient is a minor and the legal liability to pay rests with her guardian (mother). As you had already communicated your cancellation policy in advance, the refusal to pay amounts to breach of terms. You can issue a legal notice to the mother for recovery of the outstanding fee, and if not complied with, file a civil suit for recovery. To proceed effectively, proper documentation and strategy are required. Please connect with me so I can guide you step by step and draft the necessary notice and action on your behalf.
