Non Payment of Home loan EMI due to project abandoned

I had taken a home loan for a project which got abandoned and the builder is also in jail I hear for fraud. I stopped paying the EMI due to this and now obviously the bank has gone to Debt recovery Tribunal for auction. The issue I have is that they have got an order to recover balance from me if the auction value is less that recovery. Now since I have also lost money, can I be asked to pay balance since this is failed project and the bank was also supposed to check the credentials of the project before giving the loan amount to the builder.
