Since you have paid ₹3 lakhs and the borrower has promised to repay by 1st October 2025, the steps available to you will depend a lot on whether you have any written proof of the transaction (like an agreement, promissory note, cheque, online transfer record, WhatsApp/chat/email acknowledgment) or whether it was a pure cash/hand loan without documentation. If you have proof, then once the due date passes without repayment, you can first send a legal notice demanding immediate repayment, and if he fails, you can file a summary civil suit for recovery of money, or a complaint for cheating if there was dishonest intention from the start. If he issued any cheque for repayment which gets dishonoured, you can also proceed under cheque bounce laws within strict timelines. If you have no written proof but payment was made digitally (bank transfer, UPI, etc.), your bank statement itself becomes evidence and is sufficient to maintain a recovery case. If it was purely cash without witnesses or acknowledgment, it becomes harder, as the borrower may deny the loan—still, you can file a case, but success will depend on supporting evidence like witnesses, chats, or admissions. For now, preserve all possible records and do not wait passively; once the deadline passes, engage a lawyer to issue a strong legal notice immediately, as sometimes that itself forces repayment. If there is no response, be prepared to approach the civil court for recovery, and keep in mind that the limitation period for filing such a suit is three years from the date the money becomes due.
