My friend used my credit card saying he will pay later

29-Oct-2025 (In Recovery Law)
I gave my credit card to a friend in the UK. He used £1200, promising to repay in a month. He sent £250 over 6 months which I used for minimum payments. Two years later, £1,000 is still unpaid. I lost old statements and chats after changing phones. I have no proof or can’t get statements— can I win the case with only partial WhatsApp messages from six months where he said he will pay? We both are in India now.(only WhatsApp proof where he said he will pay 1000) is my only evidence.

His liability is clear as he admitted repayment in WhatsApp messages. That itself is valid electronic evidence under the Evidence Act. You can recover the unpaid £1000 by issuing a legal notice and filing a civil recovery suit for breach of trust and cheating. You can also obtain credit card statements from your bank as secondary evidence. Immediate legal action is advisable to prevent him from denying the debt.
