loan given to a friend but cannot file case as don't have address

I had given a friendly loan of 12000/- in the year 2011 to a college acquaintance.He later told me not to deposit the cheque as he did not have enough balance. Though a small amount can I file a case against him . I have the cheque with me.He is not disclosed his address so that I can recovery the money.I have his contact no and he is on Facebook.He has also personally abused me.
