How to recover the advance amount given to buy property?

In 2016 my parents decided to purchase a piece of land, and paid the person cheques of 10 lac, but after paying him after 2 months my parents decided not to buy it and is in urgent need of money. there were no paperwork has done, they have given an advance in 2016 a heavy amount of 10 lac. the person is making excuses but not returning the money. my parents trust on this person is shattered. we only have our proof as bank statements.

to recover the amount you need to proceed legally now. You can send him a legal notice to begin with asking him to refund the money of Rs. 10 lacs and in case he still denies to pay you the amount you can file a recovery suit against the concerned person and attach your bank statements as proof.
