How to recover my money from my friend that i gave in good faith

sir, my friend taken Rs: 5 Lacs as hand loan from me. he given his flat 950 sft original documents and promissory note and cheques. but he not mortgaged his property on my name. can i mortgage his property with out him. or how can recover my money as early as possible. please suggest. with full details and advocate fee.
As he has provided you the promissory notes and cheques against them you can file a suit for recovery against him. And if the cheque is issued to you and the said cheque is deposited in bank and it bounces then you can also file a case under section 138 NI act against him for recovery
