How to legally recover my money back from friend

i have given loan by cheque to my friend at 2006 .i dont have any proof that money i had give him is loan. now he is not paying my money back. what should i do for it .please advice
:- Well, firstly you should serve him with legal notice through an advocate. There are chances that you might get your amount at this stage itself. In case you don’t get it then you can file a suit for recovery in appropriate Civil Court. Although you don’t have any proof other than the cheque by way of which you paid the amount but you can give it a try.
