How to avoid Legal case against non payment of Personal loan

Do I need suggestion on non payment of personal loan overdue EMI amount, regarding this bank is trying to take legal action against me. How to avoid the case by taking time to clear the over dues?
In this case you can have a mutual agreement and ask them that you will pay it within the stipulated time period. However if they send you a legal notice then hire a lawyer and reply to the notice stating all your concerns. It would be beneficial if you request them for some more time to pay the due amount.
