given credit card to friend as loan

29-Oct-2025 (In Recovery Law)
I gave my credit card to a friend in the UK. He used £1,000, promising to repay in a month. He sent £250, which I used for minimum payments. Two years later, £1,000 is still unpaid. The card is closed, and I lost old statements and chats after changing phones. For the past six months in India, he’s said several times on WhatsApp he’ll repay the amount to my Indian address. I have no other proof or account access — can I win the case with only WhatsApp messages?

Even if the transaction was abroad, your friend’s WhatsApp admissions clearly show acknowledgment of liability and promise to repay. These messages can be treated as valid electronic evidence of debt under law. You can issue a legal notice demanding repayment within a fixed time, and if he fails, file a civil recovery suit in India (or initiate action through appropriate jurisdiction based on his location). Before proceeding, collect all available proof such as card statements from your bank. We can assist in drafting the notice and pursuing recovery legally.
