Gave loan which he did not return giving false statements in the court

I had given a loan of 1.25 crores to my brother in law. I gave him money through cheques. For two years he did not return money neither paid any interest. When I filed case against him in court he replied that he has given me cash against the cheques issued by me. He claims that it is only book entry where he gave black money to me and I gave him white money. I know this statement is wrong. But what is his ulterior motive behind this statement. The next hearing is in February. I thank in anticipation of reply.
