During Covid, I have supported a family member by giving them money in the last 3 years. They promised to return the money, but now they're refusing to return my money. I sent the money from the USA to India using xoom.com and have the transaction receipts. nHowever, there were no written contracts or legal obligations. It was only verbal over the phone. Can I get my money back? nnI am a US citizen and If I have to take legal action what should I do? Can I send them a demand letter or notice? Do I need to hire a lawyer in India to initiate the processing? nHow much will it cost me to start the legal proceedings in India? Do I have to come to India?

If he/she is listening to you then you can always serve him/her a legal notice cum demand notice and in that notice you can write either refund my money back along with compensation or face legal action. For more legal assistance I am just a call away.

Do you have any residence in India ? Civil jurisdiction for your recovery case will b India and not US ! Jurisdiction would b where respondent lives or work or where cause of action has arisen ! Coming to India is optional, rather u can simply release SPA in fav of your friend or relative who knows about the transaction ! We need to file suit for recovery in this case ! Plz b in touch
