Cyber crime FIR registered what next

10-Mar-2026 (In Recovery Law)
I was scammed and I filed a cybercrime. I also got a FIR registered. The scammers have distributed my money to various accounts. Cybercrime police report is showing that some accounts are put in lien (banks have put such accts in freeze) and I want to recover at least the lien amounts. I want to know how to proceed from this point. After FIR was registered nothing has happened, no information. How to recover at least the amounts held by banks from those accounts?

From the facts stated, once an FIR is registered in a cyber fraud case and certain bank accounts are placed under lien or freeze, the investigating agency has the authority to trace and secure the defrauded funds. However, the amount kept under lien is not automatically released to the victim without a court order. The appropriate legal step is to file a petition/application before the jurisdictional Magistrate seeking release of the lien amount in your favour, supported by the FIR, bank transaction records and the cybercrime investigation report showing that the frozen amount is part of the defrauded funds. If the investigation is moving slowly, you may also file a representation to the Investigating Officer and Cyber Crime Cell requesting early filing of a report before the court regarding the frozen funds. Once the court is satisfied about the source of the money, it can direct the bank to release the amount to the victim. Therefore, immediate legal follow-up with the investigating agency and approaching the Magistrate for release of the lien amount is the proper course to recover the money held in frozen accounts.
