Cousin not returning property paper after mortgage loan

Hello Four years back my cousin used our property (land) as a mortgage for loan. We gave him property paper as he is our close family relative. But now when we are asking him to give back our property paper, he is refusing and increasing the time duration. Owner of the property is my mother. Is there any legal process for the same? Please advice me
You shall find it very difficult to prove your claim in the absence of any formal agreement between both the parties. However, you can file a suit for non- repayment of debt by way of suit for recovery but some proof would be required.
