Car rentals on white number plate is illegal and some apps are working

From the facts stated, in India a vehicle used for commercial rental purposes must normally have a yellow number plate with black lettering, indicating that it is registered as a transport vehicle. If the vehicle provided to you has a white number plate, it generally indicates a private vehicle, and using such a vehicle for commercial rental activity may amount to violation of the Motor Vehicles Act and applicable transport regulations. You should immediately verify the vehicle registration details through the Parivahan portal or mParivahan app using the registration number. If it is confirmed that the vehicle is a private vehicle being used for commercial rental, you may raise a written complaint with the rental company seeking clarification and refund or cancellation of the booking. If the company refuses to respond or continues such practices, you may lodge a complaint with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and also approach the Consumer Commission for deficiency of service and unfair trade practice. For your safety, ensure that the vehicle has valid registration, insurance, permit, and driver authorization, as any violation may also expose the passenger to inconvenience during enforcement checks.
