What to do if landlord is forcing us to pay house tax
15-May-2023 (In Property Law)
Hello, I stay in pagdi system flat in Mumbai. The landlord had not paid the property tax that was due on him since the last 10 years or so and apparently he had been getting away by paying bribes till now. Now due to some inquiry he has to pay up last 5 years' property tax together and he is asking us pay a to share in the property tax. Moreover he has threatened us that if we do not comply with him he will stop water supply from day after tomorrow and will cook up more trouble for us. He also owns a restaurant that is situated in the ground floor of the same building and has even covered up some of the compound area of the building to run his kitchen over there. How do we tackle with this landlord ? We have paid our maintenance and rent from time to time. (Unimportant -The chimney of his hotel's kitchen opens up right near our balcony and that is a big bother too but since he doesn't listen to our complaints we have been compromising with it.)
hello Client, for your above query i will suggest you that put a letter to your landlord by all the payment which you all had paid on time, and after that you all (tenant) send a letter to your nearest police station about your harassment given by your landlord. for further need you can contact me through this site.
You are not responsible to pay for the property tax. Your landlord's behaviour is extremely irrational. You can tackle him by doing a police complaint if cuts your water supply and then later on if he does not listen then you can create a lot many troubles for him with respect to his illegal restaurant. For any further clarification kindly book a consultancy call.
