Wants to sell grandfather's property but proper paper not available

hi, we have been doing family business for about last 50-60 years on a land which was bought by my grandfather. at the that there was no registration or anything. we now want to sell the land and my grandfather is not alive. my father is the only son. can we sell this even though we dont have proper paper? can someone please help
First of all tell me whether the land is vacant or with building?. Whether you are in possession? Whether patta , revenue or local body like Panchayat or municipal mutations obtained in your father's name?.
