Want to stop my father from selling his property

Dear Sir, I am from coimbatore, Tamil-nadu and a Hindu by religion. My father desperatly wants to sell a property immediately which is in his name. However, me and my other family members are not interested to sell that property. My father is not ready for any discussion or negotiations to come for an amicable solution. Can you please help me out to proceed further?
From what you have stated it is not clear whether the property was inherited by your father or it is a self acquired property. If it is self acquired property you can not stop him from selling it and if it is inherited then with out the consent of the children he can not sell it.
