Son's right in mother's ancestral property

My mother-in-law passed 1 year ago without will and she has a ancestral property. My husband is her only son. My father-in-law is alive. My mother-in-laws mother has filed for a claim against the property. What are her rights?

If it's ancestral property from your husband mother side then your monther in law mother has rights too. Only in one condition your mother in law mother can not claim, if there is any will made by your mother in law father that your mother in law will
Be a absolute owner. If there is no will then your mother in law mother has rights too

First of all I want to clear that mother have an right in father's property as well as in sons property and also in husband property
With that first issue in your case is that your mother in laws property is ancestral property as you say but by which side of was ancestral first clear that

Parents do have rights in their children property but only if she has no other source of income and is dependent as the property is ancestral
However your husband being the son of deceased has full right on property he inherited .
