First of all the transfer is transfer. You are eligible to be member. but here the question is what kind of society is it. is it a co. operative housing society or co. operative housing service society.

second, get a copy of by laws. what's written there . if they are a service society then they can't charge a one rupee also for share certificate transfer. there are provision about how to get name transferred according to law as per Gujarat Co Operative Societies Act 1961 and Rules

Ms. Thakore, see you might wanna check all the bylaws of the society and resolutions passed by the members from time to time. After studying them, one can approach the Courts of Law for the solution you're seeking. Meanwhile, if you haven't registered the gift deed yet, well my first advise would be to get it done asap. Then, further on, as your NANI is the current owner we can thus put into communication through her to the society once for any possibility of Mediation or Negotiations, as the case maybe. I hope this will help you find your path to the ultimate solution. Jay Hind!
