Legal heir certificate For joint fixed deposit.

21-Apr-2025 (In Property Law)
The bank requests a legal heir certificate for closing a fixed deposit held jointly in either or survivor mode where the first holder is deceased. They say it is not heirship or succesion certificate from the court and can be obtained with nominal fees in 15-20 days time.Where do I apply for the same in Mumbai ? The government website does not have any such option. Please advise Thank you

You have get the succession certificate from the High Court of Bombay , It is costly process and it will take a time of 6 month to 1 Year .If it is either or Survivor then why they are asking for Legal Heirship certificate ?

Usually banks and authorities in Mumbai insist on producing a legal heir certificate. However, if the banks insist on you producing some other document then each bank has its own set of forms and documents that are to be provided to them. It would be apt to ask them the same. Feel free to contact me for seeking any legal assistance as regards the same.
