How can we claim our ancestral land?

My family settled in Ahmedabad for last 50-60 years. My great grandfather ran away from our ancestral land in Amreli district in Gujarat due to some unknown conflict with Rajputs. Is there any way if we can claim the land?
Yes you can. The issue is, in which year he ran away and that time his name was there in 7/12 extract( revenue entries) and also whether he was possessing the land that time. What about the present scenario in whose name is the land that is most important along with and also in revenue records!!!
