Anybody can decide the future of his own acquired property as per his will and wishes. But the ancestors property always devolve to it's legal successors and cannot be disposed of as per the wishes of its subsequent owners. However subsequent owners/legal successors can sale/dispose of the ancestors property by mutual consent.

ancestral property belongs to all the successors.an individual can will only that part of the property which he/she has inherited.so your father can will only his part not all.it can be challenged before the court of law
