Gift deed stamp duty and registration fees
11-Sep-2023 (In Property Law)
Hi. I want to transfer property from my name to my mother's name through gift deed. Who is responsible for paying stamp duty and registration charges.
For any transfer of immovable property, the document has to registered and in case of sale , it the responsibility of purchaser to pay stamp duty and registration charges to get the property transfer to his/her name. But Gift is not a sale and here either donor or donee can pay the stamp duty or registration charges depending upon the individual circumstances of gift.

This is my response to you:
1. You will have to pay the whole stamp duty;
2. Since it is a gift deed the rate of stamp duty is less;
3. You will need to disclose more facts;
4. Consult a local lawyer and take steps.
