28-Mar-2025 (In Muslim Law Law)
Hello, I am hindu girl who converted to islam. i have nikahnama and shahada certificate, but we did not register it. Is my marriage valid? My boyfriend asked me to go in 2024 but i did not go. his parents got him married forcefully and he could not tell me in fear. But he never slept with his 2nd wife and she was not aware about our marriage. Now their divorce is about to finalize , only money needs to be given so can i go and live with him now? What if my parents files complaint? Please help

Your marriage under Muslim law requires a valid Nikah with witnesses and the consent of both parties. While you have a Nikahnama and Shahada certificate, non-registration does not necessarily make it invalid, but it is advisable to get it officially registered to avoid legal complications. Regarding your boyfriend’s forced marriage, if his second wife was unaware of your marriage, this may have legal implications. If their divorce is near completion, you may live with him, but ensure that all legal formalities are completed before doing so. If your parents file a complaint, it depends on their claims. If they allege forceful conversion or illegal marriage, you may need legal assistance to prove that your conversion and marriage were voluntary. You may consider seeking protection if you fear harassment.
