All You Need To Know About Travel Restrictions and E-Pass Rules in India

In the wake of increasing COVID-19 cases in India due to the second wave of virus spread, most of the Indian states have restrictions on the interstate, intrastate travel and driving in general. A few states made it mandatory for visitors to produce a negative Covid-19 test on arrival. States that have lockdown/curfew with travel restrictions are Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Andaman. The travel restrictions apply to visitors travelling by air, train or by road & ndash either in public transport or private vehicles like a car or a bike. Here is a complete list of Indian states that have a lockdown, travel restrictions, quarantine, or requires a negative Covid test in 2021. Since the rules could change anytime, it's best advised to check with the local administration/airline/hotel or the local health authorities just a few days before your travel. Largely road travel across India is restricted for non-essential purposes, only emergency vehicles and vehicle carrying essential supplies are permitted to ply. Public transport services like buses, auto, and taxi are suspended in most parts of the country except for emergency purposes, but scheduled trains and flights are functional.

Who is allowed to travel in their vehicles?

With a lockdown, shutdown or curfew situation across the country, vehicles are allowed to be used for essential and emergency purposes. Medical professionals, healthcare workers and people working to provide essentials and emergency supplies are allowed to use their vehicles, with a valid ID card or a travel pass provided by the respective state government.

What are the rules for private vehicles?

Interstate and Intrastate travel is largely banned for non-essential purposes in the states with Lockdown restrictions, an E-passes is required to travel by road for essential or emergency purposes. Private vehicles like cars and bikes are not allowed to ply unnecessarily without a valid reason, people are allowed to use vehicles only in case of emergency. Remember, all drivers and passengers should wear a face mask in a car, it is also advisable to keep a sanitizer and surface cleaner spray in your cars.

What are travel rules and restrictions for different Indian states in 2021?

Travel rules for Delhi The lockdown in the national capital, Delhi began on April 19 and the Chief Minister has extended the lockdown till June 7. Essential services are allowed, however, anyone travelling in the NCR (National Capital Region) will require an e-pass issued by the Delhi government except for those involved in essential services. The covid-19 test is not required for passengers travelling to Delhi. However, the thermal screening will be done for all passengers upon arrival. Can I travel from Delhi to Gurugram or Faridabad? Yes, except for those involved in essential services, people require an e-pass issued by the Delhi government to travel in the NCR region. Can I travel from Delhi to Noida or Ghaziabad? Only people involved in essential activities can travel during the lockdown with a valid e pass from the UP government. Travel rules for Maharashtra Maharashtra has been under lockdown since April 22 and the lockdown like restriction is further extended to June 15 as announced by the government. There is a ban on inter-city as well as inter-district travel, public and private transport are allowed only for essential services and emergencies. A 14-day home quarantine is mandatory for inter-district travellers. Travel restrictions for Karnataka Karnataka government has announced a complete lockdown from May 10, Monday to May 24, Monday to battle the rising coronavirus cases in the state. Essentials services like Groceries, Dairy, Meat, Banks, ATMs, and Standalone Liquor Stores are allowed to operate between 6 AM to 10 AM. A total vehicle ban will be in place during the lockdown which restricts people from using private vehicles such as cars and bikes without a valid reason. Also, all public transport services including autos, buses and taxies are suspended. Travel restriction during the lockdown in Karnataka doesn't apply to people working in factories /shops (with valid ID card), students attending exams (with valid Hall Ticket), patients and patient attendees for medical purposes, delivery executives and passengers travelling to airports or railway stations to board scheduled flights and trains (with valid tickets). Those travelling by air to Karnataka, Bengaluru are exempted from carrying a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 report. Travel Rules for Goa The Goa government has made negative RT-PCR report or complete vaccination certificate mandatory for visitors entering the state from May 10. The state had also announced a strict curfew till May 23. During the period, grocery & meat stores, medical shops, and standalone wine shops are allowed from 7 am till 1 pm. All the bars, casinos, community hall, river cruises, waterparks, entertainment parks, swimming pools, places of worship will remain closed. Restaurants are open for takeaway and deliveries only.
