Punjab & Haryana HC rejects parole plea of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim
August 29, 2019The parole plea of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday. Ram Rahim's wife Harjit Kaur had filed the plea earlier in August on the grounds that his mother had to undergo medical treatment.
Harjit Kaur had told the Court that Ram Rahim is eligible for the parole as her mother wants to undergo treatment in the presence of her son. However, the Court, while rejecting the plea, has stated that her treatment is to be done by a doctor and Ram Rahim doesn't qualify for the same.
Further, it has added that the treatment of her mother can be done in the hospital owned by the Dera Sacha Sauda chief in the presence of her family members and the hospital staff. The Court also questioned the filing of the plea by Harjit Kaur on behalf of Ram Rahim when the latter is alive.
The Dera Sacha Sauda chief is currently lodged at Sunaria jail in Rohtak, Haryana. He is undergoing a sentence after being convicted in two rape cases and the murder of a journalist. Ram Rahim had also made an application for a parole of 42 days to look after his fields in Sirsa which was later withdrawn.
