Entire Agra Police Station booked for murder as man dies in police custody

November 24, 2018

The entire Sikandra Police Station of Agra city has been booked for an alleged custodial death of a 32-year-old man after he was tortured in front of his 55-year-old mother. An inspector and two sub-inspectors have also been suspended for the same.

The deceased was picked up by the police from his rented house after his neighbours claimed that he had stolen jewellery worth INR 7 Lakhs from their house.

The shocked mother of the victim said that her son was mentally weak and used to work as a help at a chemical shop. She also claimed that the owner of the shop accused her son of stealing jewellery after which the police rained lathis on him in the lock-up in front of the mother as she pleaded for mercy.

The mother's husband, a bank manager with SBI had died in 2001 and she was living with her son in a rented house. She said that the police took her to the police station and tortured her son as she was made to watch it, and later dropped her back around 6 pm but kept the son in the lock-up. She was informed around 9 pm by the cops that her son is dead.

The deceased's post-mortem was videographed by the police and the autopsy report showed that his death was caused due to myocardial infarction (heart attack), and minor injuries on shoulder, arms and legs.

Three cops have been suspended and an FIR has been lodged against the entire police station and two of the victim's neighbours.
