Opposition submits notice to Vice President for impeachment of Chief Justice Dipak Misra

Opposition leaders submitted a notice to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu for the impeachment of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra. This comes after the Supreme Court judgment which dismissed the demand for an investigation into the death of CBI judge BH Loya. Today 64 Parlementaires of seven different political parties signed the impeachment notice against the CJI. These MPs are from Congress, CPM, the NCP, CPI, the SP, the Muslim league, the BSP. Congress has criticised the Supreme Court judgment in the matter of Loya's death. They called it “ sad letter day” in India's history and claimed that this matter requires a fair investigation. The death of Loya is suspicious and is a matter of deep concern. The notice stipulates five grounds on which impeachment proceedings should be commenced against CJI. Ghulam Nabi Azad, the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha met representatives of all opposition parties that asked President Ram Nath Kovind in February to conduct a detailed investigation into the death of Ram Nath Kovind. For removal of CJI, the first motion was initiated on January 12 during the press conference of four most senior most judges. Kapil Sibal said that the judges of the Supreme Court think that the independence of the judiciary is challenged alluding to the functioning of CJI.
