Aarushi Murder case: Hemraj’s wife appeals in SC against the acquittal of Talwars

December 16, 2017

In yet another twist in the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case, Hemraj's wife on Friday moved to the Supreme court challenging the Allahabad High Court's decision of acquitting the doctor couple, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar. The Allahabad High Court has in October this year acquitted the couple of the charges of killing their teenage daughter and domestic help Hemraj, for the want of evidence. In May 2008, Aarushi Talwar was found dead in her room with her throat slit. The police suspected the involvement of domestic help Hemraj, who was missing at that time from the murder scene. However, his body was later discovered on the terrace of the house. After which Rajesh and Nupur Talwar became the prime suspect in this case. On account of the shoddy investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Police, in this case, the matter was handed over to the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI). Later in 2013, a special CBI court found both of them guilty of Hemraj and Aarushi's murder and the couple was sentenced to life imprisonment. Rajesh and Nupur Talwar then made an appeal to the High court against their conviction. The Allahabad High Court acquitted the couple as no irresistible conclusion was found that could prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The court stated that the evidence on record is not sufficient to prove their involvement in the murder. The couple was then released from Dasna jail where they were lodged since their conviction. Hemraj's wife has now filed an appeal against the Allahabad High court's verdict terming it as erroneous and demanded a fresh probe in the case.
