Landlord telling us to evict from our pagdi property or we have to pay

12-Jun-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
I am a 70 year old woman... We have been staying in pagdi system since 35 years... paid the then amount in cash to the landlady without any agreement or document. Have been paying monthly rent of around ₹500 and receiving a simple bill in return. Now the landlady is telling us that she is got a builder and will demolish present building(3 floors) and build a new taller building and if we want a house then we will have to pay more money. Now all of us tenants are poor and can’t afford, so she is telling us that she will give us a small amount(almost nothing) and kick us out. We told her we have rent bills, how can she do that?! we also have some right! She is saying once the building is demolished and razed to the ground... she will have all the right to do what she wants and then the tenants cannot do anything... so it’s better you take money and leave or pay hefty amount and stay!!! I’m staying in my daughters house now in fear of her. What should I do? Would you kindly assist!!!

No. In Redevelopment you all will become the owners and will no longer be the tenants.

The builder will have to give the flat to all of you. You don't have to pay any amount to the builder now.

Kindly contact us for a detailed discussion on the same.
