Landlord coming with new lease with increased rent what if i dont sign

28-Sep-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
I am living in a rented house or last 3 years. For first 2 years I had a written agreement with landlord. For the third year there was no agreement and I continued to pay the rent. At present I am staying without any agreement and paying rent. Now the landlord has approached me with a new agreement with increased rent. He has been cheating me by taking more rent from me than ground floor and giving them more facilities. Can he evict me if I do not sign the agreement. I plan not to vacate the the house.

You must negotiate the new terms of rent with your landlord or else you might have to face eviction proceedings as in such a situation a Landlord can file an eviction petition if the original lease deed has expired. However eviction proceedings take long and you may be able to put up a fight. So depending on how long you want to stay put you must take a call on how you want to proceed. You must try and settle things amicably.
