Is Replying to a LEGAL NOTICE Mandatory as per Indian law?

08-Sep-2025 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
Hello, I received a notice from a lawyer about illegal possession of a property which I have leased. But currently im not in a financial position to reply formally via lawyer. Im thinking to reply the same on email to the lawyer and when they file in court, I would like to move ahead. I read somewhere there is no such law in India that makes compulsory to reply to a notice - BUT WOULD LIKE TO CONFIRM IT. By replying to email, I would like to make sure, I didn't ignore and put my situation

You are right — there is no law that makes replying to a legal notice mandatory, but a well-drafted reply is strongly recommended to put your version on record and avoid adverse inferences in court. An email reply is acceptable if you cannot afford a lawyer right now, but it must be carefully worded so that you do not admit liability unintentionally. I can help you draft a legally sound reply explaining your position clearly and protecting your rights, which will strengthen your defense if the matter goes to court.
